Roger Roth Candidate Biography

Roger Roth has been uniquely prepared and gifted to lead. Roger was born in Appleton, Wisconsin. He grew up in the Fox Valley attending both public and private schools. Like many of his peers he enjoyed various school activities, sports, helping in community events and also politics. At a young age he and his brothers would attend many campaign functions and volunteer their time to do grass roots activities such as distributing literature for various candidates.

Growing up working on his uncle Toby Roth’s congressional campaigns led him to later help many other candidates such as Congressman Mark Green and Governor Tommy Thompson. It was during these times that he acquired a deep appreciation for our form of government and the importance of the individual in insuring its success. In college he was part of a very active College Republican group.

Starting in 6th grade Roger would work summers and weekends in the family construction business. By the time he was a senior in high school he was overseeing job crews and later would manage all aspects of the business. This small business experience gave Roger an appreciation of what it takes to establish and maintain a business. He gained valuable insights as to the challenges small businesses face in the light of government regulation and changing consumer attitudes.

He learned what it was like to manage a business and insure that there was enough money left at the end of the month to pay employees and pay the bills. The building industry gave Roger interaction with a wide range of businesses. Relating to material suppliers, realtors, insurance agents, home and business owners, lenders, sub-contractors, individual workers from various fields and the general public were all part of this valuable experience.

The lessons of an out of control, unresponsive government would help shape Roger’s conservative beliefs. “I would see men and women working hard every day wanting to make a better life for their families. What upset them more than anything was to see increasing amounts of their hard earned money taken by the government and wasted. Government was no longer working for them but they were expected to work for the government by paying larger and larger portions of their income in taxes.”

Upon graduating from the University of Wisconsin – Oshkosh, Roger continued in the family construction business. Later he joined the Wisconsin Air National Guard where he served four tours in the Middle East, three of which were in Iraq.

“These experiences showed me the dedication and valor of the men and women in our military. They are not only willing to sacrifice their lives and physical wellbeing but also the comforts of the everyday American back home. These are dedicated people and unfortunately some of Washington politicians have played politics with their welfare. These experiences also taught me about the use of American force on the international scene. At a minimum it requires an overwhelming American national interest, a well defined winnable plan with an exit strategy and the support of the American people before we even think of any future foreign military involvement.”

In 2006 Roger entered a different kind of service. “I could no longer sit by while an unresponsive government in Washington and Madison continued to disregard the voice of the people and tax and waste and borrow the State and Nation into economic disaster.” Roger ran for the state legislature from the 56th assembly district winning the primary in a three way race by almost 60% and the general election by a wide margin as well. Since that time he has been an outspoken supporter of fiscal responsibility, lower taxes and reduction in out of control state spending.

Roger has won considerable praise for his approach to politics and government. Collogues, business leaders, constituents and concerned citizens alike have praised his no nonsense attitude toward protecting taxpayers and families. Roger has never voted for a tax increase, pointing to waste and irresponsible programs as places to not only save money but reduce taxes. He has won numerous awards and has continually supported pro-life, pro family issues. The experience he’s gained in fighting against politics as usual and for the people will serve Wisconsin well in Washington.

When looking at the current state of the government in Washington, Roger decided to run for Congress as he returned in November 2008 from his tour of duty in Iraq. “It became apparent to me, as it had to many of the residents of the 8th District, that the hope and change that the Democrats promised was not what the people voted for. We must act now to save the constitution and the Country as we know it from those who promise to ‘change’ our country for the worse.

Roger announced on December 1, 2009. In the short time since he began active campaigning he has received tremendous support for his candidacy. Hundreds have joined in his campaign. There is an open invitation to join with Roger for anyone who wants to help change Congress and restore the country.

His experience in small business, the military and in the legislature has prepared him to be a voice of the people that will take control out of the hands of politicians and put it back into the hands of the people.
